Philosopher, business man, teacher

My name is Shannon Bellamy and my life is multifaceted: I am a businessman, a college professor, a private pilot, a father of twins, a regular churchgoer, and a philosopher. However, I am not your typical philosopher. While I do have a doctorate in Philosophy, I also have a Masters in Business—a somewhat unusual combination. The point of mentioning this is to dispel the notion that philosopher's typically live in ivory towers—that really is not true of me.

I grew up in Ft. Worth, Texas, and received an undergraduate degree in physics and an MBA in Finance and Banking from the University of North Texas in Denton. After completing my MBA, I worked in industry for 15 years. I was a software project manger for Control Data Corporation, bought and sold a number of rental properties, and owned a small business.

When I was forty I went back to school and completed a Ph. D. in Philosophy from the University of Utah, with a concentration in business ethics. Now, I been working as a professor of Management and Business Ethics at Westminster College for ten years.

My success in teaching business ethics to MBA students has lead me to want to reach more people than just one or two classes per semester, and to teach ethics to more people than those just formally enrolled in an MBA program.

My unique background helps me not only to identify with the problems business people face—I was a businessperson for several years—but also to teach business ethics with a strong philosophical foundation as well.

Thank you for taking a look at my web page.
