A
better vantage point, a different view
A glass prism, a physical device, separates white light into the
component colors of the spectrum. Once the light is separated into
individual colors, we can further analyze the object that generated
this particular spectrum.
Without the use of a prism, not only would we be unaware of the
nature of light itself, but also many modern scientific discoveries
would not be available for our use and enjoyment.
By analogy, PEAK Ethics is a metaphysical device used to separate,
not physical light, but the ethical, intangible "light"
into its respective components: Persons, Empathy, Action, and Knowledge.
The PEAK metaphor allows us to analyze the nature and structure
of both ethical failures and ethical successes. Using this metaphysical
prism we are then able to follow paths that we know have lead to
success and to avoid those dead ends that have resulted in ethical
failures.
Peak Ethics takes the mystery out of the ethical discussion and
gives all participants a common vocabulary.
